The 2008 Forever stamp from Sennett was issued in booklet form on October 25. The year-date on this new variety is smaller than the year-date on the convertible booklet variety from Sennett issued earlier this year.

The 4th of July, 2008

Stan Duczeminskyj in a letter to the editor of Linn's Stamp News pointed out that this stamp shows not 13 stripes but rather 14 stripes. Perhaps the folks in Washington DC who approved this design got to thinking that they were one of the original colonies that founded this great country. Thankfully, they were not, despite the 14th white stripe showing at the bottom of this stamp.

Oftentimes I think assigning the title of "District" (of Columbia) to the folks in the federal government who try to run our lives is too generous. Perhaps they should be relegated to being the mere "Possession" (of Columbia), a possession of the rest of us Americans, and return the power to the folks who gave the politicians in Washington DC the power to govern the rest of us in the first place.

A new variety of the Forever ATM sheetlet of 18 came out last December. Previously this issue had plate V11 on the reverse side of the sheetlet. The new variety has the plate number V22222 on the front. Collectors found this change to be odd. What was overlooked however was the fact that the back-side of the original printing was normally tagged. With the reissue from plate V22222 the back-side is untagged, as is normally the case for convertible booklets. It is interesting also that a portion of the printing with plate V11 on the back had a back-side which was untagged.

You may click here to see the original printing with plate V11 on the back and here to see the re-issue with plate V22222. The difference in the back-tagging cannot be seen in the scans, unfortunately.

An interesting variety of the 17¢ Bighorn Sheep stamp has shown up. On the original printing, the paper is quite dark under long-wave UV, and the tagging glows green under short-wave UV. On the reprinting, the stamp glows under long-wave UV, and the tagging glows bluish-white under short-wave UV. The stamps themselves are virtually identical under normal light, as you can see from the scans.

The USPS has issued a new variety of the Forever convertible booklet from Sennett. This new variety shows the "2008" in the corner. David Sieroty in a letter to the editor of Linn's Stamp News observed that the microprinting next to the Libery Bell can easily be read, because the wood has been reversed out. Previously, the microprinting characters were so thick that the area where the microprinting was appeared to be black or dark brown. The first day of issue was May 12, 2008.

A new variety of the Avery-Banner stamp has turned up. This new variety is printed on a paper which glows brightly under both short-wave and long-wave UV. Insofar as this is the case, it is different from a normal Hi-Brite, which only glows under long-wave UV.
